Excellent. When are people — including mainstream media — going to wake up and realize the United States of America is a nation of law? The left claims they’re “woke” yet they remain ignorant of basic law and order. They’re fast asleep!
Law and order begins with the Constitution for the United States of America, which clearly and expressly prohibits such infringements on arms, including type of arm and magazine capacity via “the right of the people to keep and bear arms SHALL NOT be infringed.” – Second Amendment.
That’s right, KKTV and viewers: It’s not merely an issue with the Colorado State Constitution. It’s an issue with “the supreme Law of the Land” (Article VI). It REQUIRES all States to agree to and abide by the letter of the law as Colorado did in 1876 when it created our State Constitution and applied for admission to the Union.
Our State Constitution also confirms compliance with the Constitution for the United States of America. Changes in state constitutions which violate the US Constitution are struck down.
That is the law.
Let’s THINK for a moment about what would happen in our nation if we actually banned our right to keep and bear arms. The United Kingdom, one of our closest, demographically similar allies, did just that. Their violent crime rate, including murders, more than tripled in the decade that followed. To this day, their violent crime rate remains 2.54 times higher.
In the same period of time, the right to keep and bear arms was both affirmed by numerous Supreme Court cases and strengthened by state laws. As a result, our violent crime rate DROPPED.
The simple fact of the matter is that between 650,000 and 800,000 violent crimes are stopped in the United States each and every year by armed citizens, almost always without ever firing a shot. The “Wild West” it is NOT. This is simply good, old-fashioned deterrence, and it works very well.
“Buh… buh… buh… Piers Morgan said the murder rate in England has dropped to zero!”
No. He said the “murder rate by firearms has dropped to zero.” Meanwhile, the violent crime rate — including murder — is still 2-1/2 times higher than it is here in the United States. They’re just using knives, crowbars, and cricket bats to inflict violence on people in the UK, and a lot more of them per 100,00 population than here in the United States.
So much for Piers Morgan…
“Buh… buh… buh… The murder rate in the US is among the highest!”
No. Stop believing everything the media gets wrong and go check the stats for yourself. The US homicide rate is 5.3 people per 100,000 people, and we’re tied with Greenland. In the United Kingdom, it’s 1.2, only because they’re less interested in killing you than in robbing you. Costa Rica’s 12.3 per 100k is more than double the US rate, so if you’re thinking of retiring there… 9.2 in Russia. 25 in Mexico. 36 in South Africa. 57 in Jamaica…
Here’s the astounding statistic: If you remove just 5 US cities where the murder rate is the worst, the overall US rates drops well below that of the UK. In fact, it drops to the bottom fifth in the world. One guess as to which political party has controlled these murder-riddled cities for more than half a century…
Back to the reason WHY “the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” That, too, is contained in the Second Amendment. It’s “necessary to the security of a free state.” It doesn’t say it creates free states. It says it’s necessary to the SECURITY of a free state.
Indeed, an armed general populace is several times safer than an unarmed general populace.
