Same letter for your members of Congress:
I just read that “23 Republicans decide taxpayers should fund ‘sex-change operations’ for gender-confused soldiers” (https://tinyurl.com/y68ced9r)
In years passed, those suffering from gender dysphoria were simply rejected during inprocessing under 4F.
Technically, 4F is a rejection, not a discharge. It stops people from getting in before they accrue any benefits. It’s changed over the years. Here’s the old classification, from 1948 to 1975:
“Registrant not acceptable for military service. To be eligible for Class 4-F, a registrant must have been found not qualified for service in the Armed Forces by a Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) under the established physical, mental, or moral standards. The standards of physical fitness that would be used in a future draft would come from AR 40-501.”
Here’s the verbiage in place since 1976:
“Registrant not acceptable for military service. This may be because of learning disabilities, drug abuse or alcoholism, criminal record or MENTAL HEALTH problems, being an amputee/tetraplegia, etc.”
Even to this day, transgender dysphoria remains listed in the DSM V as a MENTAL HEALTH issue. Nearly all, if not all, state laws require significant psychological treatment before allowing people to proceed with SRS.
“The American Psychiatric Association, publisher of the DSM-5, stated that gender nonconformity is not the same thing as gender dysphoria, and that “gender nonconformity is not in itself a mental disorder. The critical element of gender dysphoria is the presence of clinically significant distress associated with the condition.”
“The American Psychiatric Association permits a diagnosis of gender dysphoria if the criteria in the DSM-5 are met. The DSM-5 states that at least two of the following criteria for gender dysphoria must be experienced for at least six months’ duration in adolescents or adults for diagnosis:
A strong desire to be of a gender other than one’s assigned gender
A strong desire to be treated as a gender other than one’s assigned gender
A significant incongruence between one’s experienced or expressed gender and one’s sexual characteristics
A strong desire for the sexual characteristics of a gender other than one’s assigned gender
A strong desire to be rid of one’s sexual characteristics due to incongruence with one’s experienced or expressed gender
A strong conviction that one has the typical reactions and feelings of a gender other than one’s assigned gender”
BOTTOM LINE: The US Armed Forces DO NOT and should NEVER accept people who require anything other than minor spiritual, psychological, or physical treatment.
Some major screw-ups amongst the ranks of the services themselves let them in, but President Trump rightfully put a STOP to that hugely off-mission drain on U.S. Taxpayer resources.
The Mission of the U.S. Armed Forces involves both defense and power projection. It is not welfare. It is not a slush fund for people requiring serious spiritual, psychological, or physical treatment.
I respectfully request you do everything in your power to remind those 23 members of the GOP that U.S. taxpayers won’t stand for misappropriation of Department of Defense funding that falls so far off-mission.
Thank you for your time.
