American education has failed: “We were able to be all these things and do all these things because we were INFORMED.”

When I grew up ,American education was just fine. I know so many things, and how to do so many things more than people just twenty years my junior, it’s not even funny.  Work ethic?  Better, stronger.  Yet they get the jobs, and I do not. WHY?

Businesses are selling themselves short six ways to Sunday when they think a kid fresh out of college is going to do something fantastic for their company in place of moi.

Should younger adults be hired?  Absolutely!  However, consideration needs to be given to those of us who built the systems in the first place.  We didn’t have certificates galore when we built those systems.  We simply saw a need, learned the software, and built the solution.  As of last check, in September, 2012, the information systems I designed, developed, tested, and implemented in my last four assignments as an additional duty are STILL being used because of one thing:  THEY WORK.  I read the manuals.  I knew what I was doing.  I thoroughly investigated the need, interviewing all players, both individually as well as en masse, designed and implemented a solution, then tested and refined it in situ.

That’s why they’re still in place – because I did things right.  I was informed because I took the time and effort it takes to become informed.  “We were able to be all these things and do all these things because we were INFORMED.” – Jeff Daniels
